This job involves creating detailed technical drawings and plans to help design and build projects that clean up old, abandoned mines and prevent environmental issues like underground fires or land sinking.
You'll work closely with engineers, using computer tools or hand methods to turn rough ideas into final blueprints that support positive changes to the environment.
It's a great fit for detail-oriented people with drafting experience who enjoy technical work and want a stable government role with some flexibility to work from home.
As a Drafter Designer, you will prepare plans and details of varying complexity for the design and construction of abandoned mine reclamation projects.
You will assist engineers in preparing projects involving abandoned mines, underground mine fires or coal refuse pile fires, mine drainage control structures, and subsidence prone areas.
You will also support engineers with site surveying and review aerial photography, topography, and digital mapping used by the Design Section.
This role requires the ability to independently make decisions on which computer program or manual methods to utilize to turn sketches and conceptual designs into finalized contract drawings.
In addition, you will help revise drafting standards and assist with determining the proper materials required for backfilling entries, shafts, and strip pits.
