Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of workers who handle the storage, distribution, and processing of hazardous materials in a military logistics setting, often in a remote overseas location.

The role requires planning daily operations, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring safety while dealing with physically demanding work environments.

Full Job Description

Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.

Please note: DLA Germersheim is located in a remote location with the closest military community 100 Km away Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying.

Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job.

Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.

Work requires bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: Works outside and inside areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lit.

Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. Wear protective clothing such as steel-toed shoes, respirator, safety glasses and ear plugs.

Mechanized roller conveyers are often present are are a normal part of material routing and distribution. Major Duties:

  • Exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers.
  • Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials based on workload projections on a weekly or monthly basis.
  • Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, in accordance with general work schedules, methods, and policies established by higher-level supervisors.
  • Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects.
  • Assigns work to individual workers by verbal or written instructions.
  • Monitors work in progress and inspects completed work to assure work order requirements.
  • Sets performance standards for subordinates and makes formal appraisals of their work performance.
  • Counsels employees and discusses informal complaints and grievances with workers and union representatives.
  • Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintains work reports and records.
