We are looking for a highly organized individual with excellent communication and people skills to support Travis County Precinct Three Commissioner Ann Howard and her office team.
This is a unique opportunity to partner with an elected official that is passionate about delivering real and lasting solutions for her constituents in Precinct Three and all across the County.
This position serves as the office manager for the Commissioner’s Office and plays a critical role in managing the Commissioner’s complex and demanding schedule, leading constituent communications and relations on behalf of the Commissioner, and helping the Commissioner and her team stay aligned, organized, and efficient.

Background
Travis County is governed by five elected officials: four Commissioners, each representing a geographic region of the county, and a County Judge.
Together, the four County Commissioners and the County Judge oversee a budget of more than $2 billion that funds key services, including transportation, natural resources, justice administration, public health, and housing.
Travis County is the fifth largest county in Texas with a population of 1.3 million people.
Travis County Commissioner Ann Howard was first sworn in as the County Commissioner for Precinct 3 on January 1, 2021 and re-elected in 2024.
Precinct three is the largest precinct in Travis County; spanning from downtown Austin to Briarcliff, including the entirety of the University of Texas main and west campus areas; stretching to the western edge of Travis County on SH71; reaching the northwest of corner of Travis County via SH1431 and Jonestown; and including the neighborhoods of Westlake, Rollingwood, Circle C and Lakeway.

Requirements
- Coordinate and manage the Commissioner’s complex calendar, including receiving and screening requests; arranging, confirming, and scheduling appointments, meetings, and events; and ensuring the Commissioner knows where to be when.
- Lead constituent relations, communications, and responses; including serving as the main point of contact for the Commissioner’s office; responding to questions and concerns via e-mail, phone, and in-person; handling issues that require sensitivity and sound independent judgment; referring certain issues to appropriate Precinct Three staff members or County departments for resolution; and determining the priority to respond to incoming correspondence.
- Execute day-to-day office operations, including receiving guests, tracking the office’s budget-to-expenditures, organizing and managing office records, and processing purchase orders and travel reimbursements.
- Plan, organize, make and supervise logistical arrangements for events the Commissioner is hosting or attending, including travel arrangements.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and officials, with representatives of outside private and public organizations, and with the general public.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment.
- Support Precinct Three communications, including drafting newsletters, posting on the Commissioner’s social media platforms, and updating the Commissioner’s website.
- Serve as a representative and liaison for the Commissioner by attending community meetings and events.
- Work with the Commissioner’s team to define short- and long-term priorities for the office.
- Perform special projects or other job-related duties as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Government, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field AND three (3) years of responsible administrative experience in a service-oriented organization;

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: None required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with or lives within Precinct Three of Travis County and prior work experience in similar environment.

Additional Information
Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 20-50 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to sitting, client/customer contact, standing, walking, vision to monitor, repetitive motion, stooping/kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching to perform the essential functions.
Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity. As such, employees can be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.
