Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized Experience for this position includes: - Serving as advisor to senior level management staff on matters related to credit policy, loan production and/or program management of government-insured or guaranteed single-family insurance programs; AND - Supervising staff or leading a team that initiated or developed Single Family credit policies; AND - Revising policies and procedures in response to changing federal legislation and overseeing the implementation of those revisions.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-15 you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

The Office of Single Family Housing is responsible for the overall management of Single Family mortgage insurance programs for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).

The Office also acts as a stabilizing force in the single family home financing market by increasing access to mortgage credit.
Policies and programs administered by the Office-from becoming an FHA-approved mortgage lender or other stakeholder, to mortgage origination through post-closing and endorsement processes, servicing of FHA mortgages, and beyond-assist in the provision of these affordable mortgage programs while meeting the needs of borrowers.
These functions are carried out by dedicated staff in our Alexandria, VA headquarters and Homeownership Centers in Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, and Philadelphia, PA.
As a/an Director Home Mortgage Insurance Division, you will: Initiate, develop, or direct development of new or revised programs, policies and procedures related to home mortgage insurance.
Develop or direct development of the credit underwriting standards for home mortgages. Monitor the effectiveness of underwriting standards to assure that prudent lending practices are maintained.
Formulate new policies and procedures in response to changes in federal housing legislation, Departmental goals, and national mortgage market.
Direct the preparation of a wide variety of difficult and complex technical correspondence to HUD field offices, congressional representatives, other government officials, members of the mortgage industry and the general public.
