Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping patients at a military hospital in Colorado by reviewing their medical needs, planning suitable meals based on their diets, and using computer systems to track nutrition information.

It supports dietitians and the care team to ensure accurate food service and patient education on healthy eating.

About the Position This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, CO with Nutrition Care.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting patients in planning daily meals per their prescribed diet order, food tolerances and/or medical condition; reviewing patient's electronic medical record for prescribed diet order; assisting higher level dietetic technicians with educating patients on their prescribed diet; operating computerized systems in a medical treatment facility to record patient's diet/meal information.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health Nutrition.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Major Duties:

  • Provide nutrition care in accordance with established guidelines and policy.
  • Review patient medical charts for pertinent information related to patient nutritional status and lifestyle.
  • Record screening data, nutrition assessments and plans.
  • Review diet orders and update food preferences and supplements in computerized programs.
  • Communicate with dietitian regarding diet instructions.
  • Evaluate accuracy of tray assembly and nourishment planning procedures.
  • Review menus and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Communicate with all members of the Nutritional Care Team, orally or via e-mail, regarding all information relative to patient care and meal service.
