Job Description

Summary

This job is for a mechanic who maintains and repairs diesel-powered buses and other vehicles to keep public transit running smoothly in Nashville.

It involves diagnosing issues, fixing mechanical problems, and using tools to ensure everything operates safely and efficiently.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in vehicle repair, a strong work ethic, and the ability to handle varying shifts in a team-oriented public service environment.

Key Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Tennessee Class A Driver’s License with P Endorsement (or ability to obtain with paid training)
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive positions
  • Willingness to work varying shifts and availability as needed
  • Journey-level knowledge in automotive and diesel repair principles, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in buses, trucks, and heavy equipment
  • Preferred: Degree in Diesel or Automotive Technology or three years of heavy-duty diesel/automotive repair experience

Wage: $26.61 to $30.11 / Hour

(Additional Pay Incentives Available With ‘Transit Bus ASE’ Certifications)
