Requirements

In this position, you will undertake various analytical responsibilities while also performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a diverse fleet that includes construction machinery, trucks, and both gasoline and diesel vehicles. Your tasks will involve servicing hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as managing both manual and automatic transmissions. You will be responsible for conducting state vehicle inspections on all relevant equipment, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, and meticulously documenting the time allocated to each task. Promptly reporting any incidents or damage to the equipment is essential. To succeed in this role, you must be skilled in identifying suitable repair procedures for heavy machinery and making necessary mechanical adjustments to maintain optimal performance. Additionally, it is vital to promote a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues, and equipment operators.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Dual shifts 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Certain positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
