Full Job Description

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) is on the lookout for a dedicated transportation expert to fill the position of Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic at the Michaux Forest District.

This role is primarily centered on the routine maintenance and servicing of a diverse array of equipment utilized across our facilities.

Requirements

In this position, you will oversee the upkeep and repair of a diverse fleet of motorized vehicles owned by the state and those classified as Federal Excess. This includes a wide range of vehicles such as passenger cars, light and heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and tractors, as well as diesel-powered construction equipment like bulldozers, graders, and front-end loaders. Additionally, your responsibilities will extend to the maintenance and repair of small gasoline engines, which power equipment such as pumps, chainsaws, power pruners, and lawn mowers. It is essential to maintain precise records of all services performed, repairs conducted, and associated costs to ensure accountability and efficiency in operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday; 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday - Thursday; OFF Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment .
