Job Description

Summary

This job involves taking X-rays and performing other imaging tests to help diagnose medical conditions at a military hospital in San Diego.

About the Position: This position is located at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA Directorate of Clinical Support, Radiology Department.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing radiographic examinations/procedures and setting up the x-ray room or preparing or administering contrast material.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR Education : One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/Radiography.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Independently perform a variety routine to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures.
  • Receive patients, explains method of procedure, positions patients, selects and sets technical factors, sets up and adjust accessory equipment required, and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedures.
  • Instruct students participating in the radiologic technologist program.
  • Performs procedures such as Upper and Lower GI studies, Intravenous Pyelograms, Cystography, Hystereosalpingography, Arthrography, Cholangiograms, Sinograms, Fistulagrams.
  • Perform duties as a Quality Control Technologist, responsible for reviewing all radiographs performed by them or in the department for diagnostic quality prior to interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Schedules patients for radiology appointments using computerized system.
