This job involves leading a team of lawyers handling lawsuits and legal disputes for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, a government agency that protects banks and resolves failed ones.
The role requires supervising sections that manage court cases, giving expert legal advice to top executives, and stepping in for the top lawyer when needed.
It's ideal for an experienced senior attorney with strong leadership skills and a background in complex litigation, especially in finance or banking.
This position is located in the Legal Division, Litigation Branch of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Salary reflects a pay cap for this position of $315,000.
To meet the minimum qualifications, applicants must possess the leadership and technical experiences listed below.
These qualifications would typically be gained through progressively responsible management or executive-level assignments. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must submit a resume that addresses each minimum qualification experience.
Examples should be clear, concise, and emphasize your level of responsibilities; the scope and complexity of the programs, activities, or services you managed; program accomplishments; policy initiatives undertook; level of contacts; the sensitivity and criticality of the issues you addressed; and the results of your actions.
You should use action-oriented words to describe your experience and accomplishments and quantify your experience wherever possible to demonstrate your accomplishments (e.g., number of employees supervised).
Leadership Experience 1: Experience in overseeing and coordinating the work of organizational units directly and indirectly through subordinate supervisors, including assigning work, directing changes to programs and priorities, and evaluating performance against goals; AND Leadership Experience 2: Experience in managing employee performance and growth directly and indirectly through subordinate supervisors, including evaluating employee readiness for successive roles, recognizing accomplishments, providing feedback and development opportunities, and addressing performance/conduct issues; AND Leadership Experience 3: Experience in overseeing implementation of and improvements to recruiting, hiring, training, utilization, and succession readiness of staff; AND Technical Experience: Experience as a practicing attorney leading trials or oral arguments in court, directing and managing complex litigation, and negotiating settlements to achieve results for an agency, corporation, or other business.
Preferred Experience: Experience as a practicing attorney in banking or financial services.
Basic Qualification: Active license to practice before the highest court of a state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia and in good standing. Major Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for supervising and directing the legal operations of the Litigation Branch's Receivership Section, General Litigation Section, and Dallas Regional Office, to ensure efficient, timely, and quality handling of all assignments.
The incumbent performs highly specialized and technical legal work covering all aspects of the FDIC's litigation and resolution matters.
The incumbent acts as the chief legal assistant to the General Counsel for substantive matters pertaining to the FDIC's litigation caseload.
The incumbent renders legal advice and opinions to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, other members of the Board of Directors, the General Counsel, senior FDIC management and FDIC office and division heads, on substantive legal questions arising in the conduct of litigation matters and other legal issues as necessary.
In the absence of the General Counsel, when directed by the General Counsel, the incumbent acts in the place and stead of the General Counsel.
Exercises supervisory personnel management authority directly or indirectly through subordinate senior managers to include: planning, assigning, and reviewing work products of subordinates; establishing or conveying guidelines and performance and conduct expectations; and, evaluating work performance and providing feedback.
Identifies training and developmental needs for staff and provides regular recognition of staff. Works in collaboration with the appropriate division or office to administer disciplinary action.
The incumbent performs other functions and responsibilities as assigned by the General Counsel.
