Job Description

Summary

The Deputy Director of Planning role involves overseeing urban and rural planning efforts for Merced County, including land use policies, development reviews, and community projects to support economic growth.

This position assists the director in managing a team of planners and ensures compliance with state and local regulations.

It's ideal for an experienced planning professional with strong leadership skills who enjoys shaping community development in a public sector environment.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in planning or community development
  • Knowledge of California planning laws, zoning regulations, and environmental review processes
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience in managing planning teams
  • Strong communication and public engagement skills for interacting with stakeholders and the public
  • Ability to analyze complex data and prepare reports for decision-making
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to travel within the county
