WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: 1.
Managing congressional affairs activities by serving as a liaison to Congress, responding to inquiries, and providing accurate and timely information to congressional members and staff on federal human services programs and related legislation.
2. Analyzing and interpreting legislation and policy issues affecting federally funded public health and human services programs administered across multiple program offices. 3.
Communicating program and policy information through clear written and verbal products for congressional members and staff related to immigration-related, humanitarian, and public safety programs. 4.
Developing congressional engagement strategies by preparing briefings, correspondence, and reports that support departmental priorities and statutory mandates. 5.
Identifying and resolving politically sensitive issues by recommending solutions that support Department-wide goals and mission-critical public health and human services programs.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Deputy Director Human Services, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Serve as the Department's senior liaison to Congress on human services legislation, overseeing responses to congressional inquiries, coordinating testimony, briefings, reports, and communications, and representing departmental positions to Members and staff.
Provide authoritative analysis and interpretation of proposed and pending legislation affecting federally funded human services programs, including assessing policy, legal, budgetary, and operational impacts across multiple program offices.
Oversee the preparation and clearance of high-level written products, including policy papers, briefings, correspondence, and reports that communicate Departmental program and policy positions to congressional stakeholders.
Develop and implement congressional engagement and legislative strategies by advising senior leadership, preparing briefing materials, and coordinating follow-up actions to advance departmental priorities and statutory mandates.
Identify, analyze, and resolve complex and sensitive legislative or congressional issues by recommending courses of action, negotiating solutions, and balancing competing interests to support Department-wide goals and mission-critical programs.
