Job Description

Summary

The Deputy Director of Buildings role involves overseeing the building division within the county's planning and community development department, managing permit processes, inspections, and code enforcement to ensure safe construction.

It requires leading a team of professionals while coordinating with other agencies and the public.

A good fit would be someone with strong leadership experience in building regulation and a passion for community safety in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, permitting, or code enforcement
  • Valid certification as a building official or inspector from ICC or equivalent
  • Proven supervisory and management skills for leading technical staff
  • Knowledge of California building codes and state regulations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Experience with budget management and project oversight in a public sector environment
