The San Diego City Attorney's Office protects the people of San Diego by serving as chief legal counsel to the City of San Diego’s elected officials and operational departments; prosecuting and defending civil cases involving the City; and as the City’s prosecutor on behalf of the People of the State of California, by holding accountable those who commit crimes against the public health and safety and violate other local and state laws.
Our municipal law firm employs over 180 lawyers and approximately 230 support staff, dedicated to providing legal services to the City of San Diego.
The Civil Advisory Division of the San Diego City Attorney’s Office is recruiting to fill a Deputy City Attorney position in the Public Safety Unit. This position reports directly to Chief Deputy City Attorney Lara Easton.
The Public Safety Unit advises the Police Department, Fire-Rescue Department (including Lifeguards), Office of Emergency Services, and Special Events & Filming Department.
The selected deputy will be assigned to advise the Fire-Rescue Department on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) related matters, including statutory and constitutional law, regulatory compliance, medical privacy compliance, Municipal Code amendments, public records requests and subpoenas, contracting and procurement, grant funding, use of technology under the TRUST Ordinance, labor and employment, and the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights Acts.
The deputy will be assigned to work at the City Attorney’s Office and may be required to hold regular office hours or attend meetings at the Fire-Rescue Department.
The Deputy may also handle other EMS-related assignments from the City Council or Mayor’s Office, and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTE: This position is funded by the EMS Fund and is dependent upon the continued availability of funds.
