Job Description

You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times.

The Medical Services Section exists to promote and protect the health of patients and staff by overseeing, providing, and coordinating all medically related care and clinical analyses necessary for the proper evaluation and treatment of the hospital’s patients, and by managing the infection control, employee health, and emergency response programs for the hospital.

The Dental Clinic is the primary dental provider for CMHHIFL hospital. The Dental Clinic provides comprehensive, preventative and restorative dental care to the patients at CMHHIFL


Requirements

Below are the duties for this position, and are not limited to:

Preventative, Therapeutic, and Consultative Dentistry:
  • Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures.
  • Examine patients to determine the nature of the condition by using X-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Clean, fill, extract, and replace teeth using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical instruments.
  • Provide preventive dental services to patients, such as applying fluoride and sealants to teeth.
  • Provide education in oral and dental hygiene.
  • Document patient care.
Oversight and Administration of the Dental Clinic:
  • Provide instruction, demonstration, oversight, and training to the dental hygienist and other health care professionals.
  • Maintain a current and accurate record of dental clinic utilization statistics using the current hospital approved systems.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital standards, such as infection control and environmental safety, valid/current/unrestricted licensure and certifications, hospital trainings and required continuing education, etc.
Other Duties As Assigned:
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
  • Possession of a current, valid dentist license issued by the Colorado Dental Board

Special Qualifications: Current, valid Colorado Dentist License

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience practicing as a licensed dentist providing diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology in routine and emergency settings

  • Experience developing individualized patient treatment plans by applying established dental theory, professional standards, and agency protocols to patient-specific needs.

  • Experience in planning and managing one’s clinical workload and schedule, including coordination with dental hygienists.

  • Experience working with adult patients with complex medical, behavioral health, or cognitive needs, including patients who may be reluctant or unable to fully cooperate with care.

  • Experience practicing dentistry in a public-sector or secure healthcare environment, following safety, security, and infection control procedures.

  • Graduation from an accredited dental school resulting in a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry issued by the State of Colorado

  • Experience providing dental care in a public-sector or secure healthcare environment.

  • Experience applying professional dental standards and agency guidelines to develop appropriate treatment plans for patients with varying and complex needs.

  • Experience advising, counseling, or guiding patients to encourage compliance with recommended dental treatment plans, consistent with patient safety requirements and hospital policies.

  • Experience serving as a clinical resource to other healthcare professionals through consultation or explanation of dental procedures and standards.

  • Experience maintaining compliance with regulatory, professional, regulatory, infection control, and hospital accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).

  • Experience using electronic health records (EHR) and completing required clinical documentation.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
