About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Fort Hood.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice Dentistry): Education: Must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) -AND-possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Residency Program: Successful completion a two-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.-OR- Qualifying Experience: Must possess two-years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-11).-OR- Residency Program/Qualifying Experience: Must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science -AND- possess professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-11).

When combining residency program and qualifying experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than two-years.

Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.

Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted.

This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved.

Salary for Dentist positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and location.

This announcement may be used to fill positions at the tier listed below: Tier 1: $124,308 - $315,000 Major Duties:

  • Performs comprehensive general dentistry, including examinations, diagnosis, restorative procedures, and surgical treatments such as extractions.
  • Provides periodontal care, including prophylaxis, deep scaling, and root planing.
  • Manages patients with complex behavioral challenges and coordinates referrals to specialists when advanced care is needed.
  • Educates patients through group counseling on oral hygiene, tobacco cessation, and nutrition.
  • Mentors junior dentists and dental staff, supporting their clinical development.
  • Documents performance data, dental records, consultation requests, and other clinical activities in the approved information management system.
