This temporary consulting role involves reviewing medical records to assess the severity of mental health issues for Social Security disability claims, helping decide if people qualify for benefits.
You'll also consult with staff, contact doctors for more information, and train teams on psychological topics related to these claims.
It's a good fit for licensed psychologists with experience in mental health evaluations who want flexible, part-time work in state government.
You will make medical severity ratings for the purpose of adjudicating Social Security Administration (SSA) disability claims under Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act.
You will review and evaluates medical evidence of records pertaining to mental impairments and makes a determination of severity impairment and residual functional capacity following SSA guidelines and policies.You will provide case consultation on mental impairment severity to disability examiners.
You will contact claimant treating sources by telephone to obtain medical evidence.You will provide training and assistance to the Disability Determination Services staff on psychological issues relevant to the adjudication of mental disability claims.
Requirements Doctoral degree in psychology and professional license to practice psychology as issued by the SC Board of Examiners in Psychology.
Individuals selected for positions with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department's Disability Determination Service (DDS) will go through a complete federal background investigation.
A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.
