Full Job Description

The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as a Day Support Counselor in the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services program. In this role, you will work with a trusted and reputable team that has a history of success connecting individuals and their families with person-centered, recovery-oriented services and supports.

Requirements

The Day Support Counselor provides person-centered recovery-based mental health, clinical, and rehabilitation services. This is a fast paced, community integration-oriented position geared to helping individuals in service to engage in their recovery process and to function at their highest level of independence in their community.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide program or service activities based on a curriculum model of psychosocial rehabilitation, including assessment and evaluation; individual service planning; crisis intervention; development and implementation of therapeutic groups and activities; interagency consultation; and service coordination.
  • Plan, implement, and provide community skills based psychosocial rehabilitation treatment services in a manner consistent with recovery principles.
  • Operate a passenger vehicle, providing transportation for individuals from their homes to the PSR program, activities, and community outings. May plan driving routes.
  • Support and assist in the structuring of psychosocial rehabilitation community activities.
  • Maintain documentation and clinical records according to federal, state, and agency policies and procedures; must assure compliance with DBHDS licensure and Medicaid requirements.
  • Record, synthesize, and report data, and clearly and concisely communicate findings.
  • Demonstrate the ability to function independently as a member of a clinical team providing services in the community; establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, other agencies, clients, client families, and the public.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the PSR program which may include evening, weekend, or scheduled work outside of standard business hours.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field; one (1) year of related professional experience in working with persons with serious mental illness preferably in a mental health day support, day treatment, or psychosocial rehabilitation community integration settings; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related mental health field and Commonwealth of Virginia clinical licensure or licensure eligible as LPC, LMFT, or LCSW.
  • Prior experience in a PSR/ psychosocial rehabilitation program setting.
  • Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of mental health and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of psychosocial rehabilitation services and interventions.
  • Knowledge of the federal and state laws regarding the treatment and rights of persons with disabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Skilled in operating a computer and various office equipment; proficient with the software used by Loudoun County, i.e., Oracle, ERP, HER, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Ability to function as a member of a clinical team.

Additional Information

Special Requirements:
  • Certified as a Virginia Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or meet the conditions to register as a QMHP as defined by the Virginia Board of Counseling.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test.
  • Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
  • Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds 3 times per hour.
  • Must be able to become certified in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and Therapeutic Options within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask and other safety personal protective equipment (PPE) such as mask, apron, gloves, face shield, etc. to safely provide on-site services.
  • The job functions may involve unpredictable and unavoidable risk of exposure requiring special safety precautions (exposure to blood or bodily fluids, aggressive behaviors, etc.
  • May be required to work and may be assigned to an alternative work site to carry out duties that support the needs of the County’s residents or employees.
