Job Description

Summary

This job involves performing everyday cleaning tasks like sweeping floors, dusting furniture, maintaining restrooms, and emptying trash in city buildings to keep public spaces clean and safe.

It's a hands-on role in the Public Works Department, working mostly weekdays from 7am to 3:30pm with occasional weekends.

The City of Saint Paul Public Works Department is hiring an individual to perform basic cleaning and custodial work in an assigned area.

Here's what you can expect to do:
  • Clean building floors, office areas, seating areas, and hallways by sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming.
  • Dust rooms, hallways, and office furniture.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, mirrors, and drinking fountains.
  • Gather and empty wastebaskets.
  • Lock and unlock doors.
  • Report needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Lift equipment, tools, and supplies of up to 50 pounds.
  • Positions in some department may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

The eligible list created from this assessment may also be used to fill Custodian I positions as they become available in various departments within the City.

Information Specific to this Position:
This vacancy is in the Public Works Department located at 60 W Sycamore St., Saint Paul working Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. Occasional weekends may be necessary.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists are typically created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position.

Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire.

You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
