Full Job Description

This position is located within a field component of the Department of Defense (DOD, Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (OIG-INV), Defense Criminal Investigative Services (DCIS), Investigative Operations Directorate.

The following are the programs which are being recruited for Undercover Operations, Procurement Fraud, and Investigative Intake. These positions may be served in the currently assigned duty location.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement: Medical Requirements The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather.

Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required.

Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily.

Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily.

Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters.

Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels.

Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability.

Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also meet the specialized experience described below: Time in Grade: Applicants who have held a General Scheduled (GS) position for 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

Specialized Experience for GS-14: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level in the Federal service or at an equivalent level.

Specialized experience is defined as: This experience would be gained through performing such functions as conducting interviews, interrogations, and investigations related to suspected violations of Federal and military criminal law; providing expert-level investigative guidance; performing analysis of investigative data and making recommendations concerning major developments and resolutions; and, conducting search and seizure operations, surveillance operations, or protective services assignments.

Tribal, State, and local law enforcement academy training does not meet this requirement. Application MUST include a copy of the Certificate indicating completion of the course. Major Duties:

  • Provides oversight and prudence regarding polices and procedure dealing with investigative procedures, techniques, and methods within the assigned area of responsibility in support of the DCIS investigative priorities.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of routine and/or special investigative reports of correspondence for the OIG and DCIS leadership.
  • Manages special projects related to agency training and new policy initiatives as assigned.
  • Exhibits a high-level understanding of DCIS and OIG organizational goals and priorities and complies with policy action officers.
  • Represents DCIS at conferences and meetings with other law enforcement organizations or agencies.
