COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

This work unit exists to manage St. Vrain State Park within the guidelines of Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks and Wildlife policy and procedures for the use and benefit of over 250,000 visitors which utilize the area annually. This unit provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities to the public, while working to ensure that safety and high quality standards are met. It maintains and improves visitor facilities, park infrastructure and natural resources within the park. This unit is responsible for providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resource protection, natural resource education, administrative functions, law enforcement, inter-agency cooperation and assisting with statewide programs. The work unit administers State Park Programs within the district, and provides recreation and natural resource management expertise to Federal, State, County, Local and Private entities.
Requirements
This position will ensure visitor safety and resource protection at St.
Vrain State Park by managing 2 or more major operational sections of the park) and having operational knowledge of all park sections.
Volunteer Program and Education/Interpretation will be the two major operational areas of responsibility at time of hire, but may change to include, but not be limited to: Revenue, Office front desk, Entrance stations, Campground/ Reservations, and trail maintenance.
The position will also manage 1 or more minor sections such as signs, capacity, hunting, trails, visitation, water augmentation monitoring and accounting and other duties as assigned.
Areas of responsibility required to complete these operations include planning work strategies, park policies and procedures, managing temporary employees (hiring, scheduling, terminating), maintaining a safe recreational environment as well as performing and overseeing some or all daily operational tasks.
This Position will be assigned one or more operational sections of the park to manage budgets, employees and operations.
There is an expected general maintenance component to this position including janitorial, buildings, grounds and project maintenance.
This position also exists to address unforeseen issues, duties, problems, etc. that the visitors, staff, park, or agency may encounter. This position may take on assigned responsibilities beyond the scope and boundaries of St. Vrain State Park.
Program Management
Plan, direct, and participate in program-related activities of the work unit which may include: environmental education, land/boat patrol, bike path/trail patrol, revenue collection, campground patrol, volunteer management, Boating, Campground, Capacity, Education and Interpretation, Entrance/Office, Hunting, Revenue, Trails, Visitation as well as various maintenance or administrative duties.
Assure work unit safety & natural resource protection needs are accomplished effectively, efficiently, and consistently by researching, designing, developing, planning, budgeting, and implementing work unit operational guidelines, procedures, programs, and/or plans.
Develops, plans, and implements, and/or supervises a variety of educational, public safety, informational, and interpretive programs and events to expand upon the purpose of the work unit and to promote the work unit as well as Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Collaborates with other work unit managers at St. Vrain to assure efforts in all work unit areas are consistent with the goals of the work unit and Colorado State Parks.
Temporary Work Program Supervisor
This position develops and implements processes to ensure temporary workers are performing their assigned duties within the park on a daily basis.
Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises temporary staff as well as volunteers.
Hire and train seasonal employees, inventory retail items and order when necessary, work with volunteers to cross train and fill scheduling gaps.
Administration, Budgeting and Accounting
Administrative duties that may or may not be directly related to sections of responsibility previously listed above within St. Vrain State Park.
Management of entrance station sales of passes, permits, licenses, registrations and retail items, to include maintaining displays, monitoring and ordering inventories, completing and submitting monthly reports to the park manager, accounting, and training other employees to assist with these programs.
Responsible for budgets within areas of responsibility. Responsible for proper use of State credit cards.
Field Presence and Maintenance
Each Section manager is expected to perform basic cleaning and maintenance within their section.
This employee may work alone at night or off-season and performs regular preventative maintenance duties as needed.
Maintenance and upkeep of vehicles, park grounds, and office areas are a responsibility shared by all FTE staff (including this position).
The majority of visitation to the work unit occurs in the park on weekends and holidays.
As a result, this position will work in the field, in part, to best serve employees and the public during those high use periods.
During times when no commissioned officers are on park this position will monitor park activity and communicate needs/problems by radio or phone to the appropriate office or agency in the best interests of public and staff safety.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience in general Office/Clerical Support, Administrative Assistant Experience, Customer & Public Service, Financial/Procurement Support, Document & Information Management, Coordination/Project Support, retail management, volunteer management, environmental education.

Education and Experience:
A combination of related in any Science related degree will be acceptable, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery, Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Geography, Geology, Outdoor Recreation, Zoology/Animal Sciences, Engineering, P.E / Professional Engineer, Water resources planning or management, Economics, Public Administration, Communications, Law, Social Sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology, human dimensions), Public Engagement/volunteer management, Education, Business, Program Management/Project Management, Computer Science, Applied Computing, Computer Engineering, IT, Accounting, Finance, Marketing

Preferred Qualifications:
- Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience is considered.
- Current or former State experience relevant to this position.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Excel, Google suite, and virtual networking.
- Ability to work in a team, excellent communication skills.

Conditions of Employment:- Colorado residency is required at the time of application.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle.
- Driving and Criminal background checks required.
- Regular work hours may start before 7 AM and extend past 6 PM.
- Weekends, holidays and shift work required.
- Travel for training and/or other park operational needs as needed.

- May be required to travel for trainings, meetings and other job specific needs, this could include overnight travel.

To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle
Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position
Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle
