Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting children and families by investigating reports of abuse or mistreatment, creating safety plans, conducting regular home visits, and managing cases to help improve their lives.

It's a full-time role with a standard workday plus on-call duties, focused on community service in Perry County, Pennsylvania.

A good fit would be someone with a background in social work or related fields who is passionate about helping vulnerable kids and has strong organizational and empathy skills.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social welfare or related field, or equivalent combination including 12 credits in sociology, psychology, or similar social sciences
  • One year of professional social casework experience in a public or private agency (if degree lacks social welfare major)
  • Ability to investigate child abuse and mistreatment reports and assess risks using approved models
  • Experience or ability to perform home visits, develop family service plans, and manage out-of-home placements
  • Successful completion of County Caseworker Core Training and Certification (preferred)
  • Pass background checks including PA State Police, Child Abuse history, and FBI fingerprint clearances
  • Availability for full-time schedule (8 AM-4 PM, Mon-Fri) with 24-hour on-call rotation and no telework

Requirements

The caseworker in this position provides a full range of social and case management services to children, youth, and families. Performs service planning on intakes, including the completion of intake documentation and determination of risk involved, using approved risk assessment model. Investigates reports of mistreatment and abuse of children and provides for the safety of those children. Performs general protective services including a minimum of monthly home visits with families and development of family service plans. Performs out-of-home placement duties to include monthly visits and family contacts. Maintains detailed family files and performs related work as required.

Completion of the Core Training series for County Caseworkers and Caseworker Certification is preferred.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
    • Position is included in 24-hour on-call rotation.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
