Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting children and families by investigating reports of abuse or mistreatment, creating safety plans, conducting regular home visits, and managing out-of-home placements when needed.

It's a full-time role in Perry County, Pennsylvania, focused on social services and case management.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social welfare or related field, or equivalent combination including 12 college credits in sociology, psychology, social sciences, etc., plus one year of professional social casework experience
  • Six months experience as a County Caseworker 1, or successful completion of County Social Casework Intern program
  • Ability to perform intake assessments, risk determinations, and investigations of child mistreatment and abuse
  • Skills in general protective services, including monthly home visits and developing family service plans
  • Experience with out-of-home placement duties, such as monthly visits and family contacts
  • Completion of Core Training series for County Caseworkers and Caseworker Certification (preferred)
  • Pass background checks including PA State Police, Child Abuse history, and FBI Fingerprint clearances

Requirements

The caseworker in this position provides a full range of social and case management services to children, youth, and families.

Responsibilities include the performance of service planning on intakes including the completion of intake documentation and the determination of risk involved using approved risk assessment model. Investigates reports of mistreatment and abuse of children and provides for the safety of those children. Performs general protective services including a minimum of monthly home visits with families and the development of family service plans. Performs out of home placement duties to include monthly visits and family contacts. Maintains detailed family files and performs other related work as required.

The completion of the Core Training series for County Caseworkers and Caseworker Certification is preferred.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months of experience as a County Caseworker 1; or
  • Successful completion of the County Social Casework Intern program; or
  • A bachelor's degree with a social welfare major; or
  • A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of professional social casework experience in a public or private social service agency; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • You must pass a background investigation.
