This on-call nursing role at a youth correctional facility in Anchorage involves stepping in to provide medical care for juvenile residents when regular staff are unavailable, such as during vacations or training.
You'll assess health needs, monitor well-being, and refer complex cases to specialists while working under supervision.

The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill an On-Call Nonpermanent Corrections Nurse 2 (CN 2) position located in Anchorage at the McLaughlin Youth Center (MYC)

What you will be doing:
This on-call nonpermanent position provides staffing for absent permanent full-time nursing staff during periods of vacancy, leave, training, etc. This can range from one day a week to two weeks a month, depending on the needs of the facility and nursing staff.
Under the supervision and consultation of higher-level nurses, and in accordance with an established training plan, the CN 2 performs nursing duties to include assessing, monitoring, and maintaining the physical well-being of the residents at the McLaughlin Youth Center.
The CN 2 provides direct care within their scope of practice and utilizes medical protocols, when necessary and available, to meet the health needs of the residents.
When medical conditions are beyond their scope or protocols, the CN 2 refers the resident to a higher level of care.
The CN 2 will work with other floor nurses, nursing supervisor, office assistant, and contracted providers to include a family practice doctor, a family nurse practitioner, a child psychiatrist, and an optometrist.

The working environment you can expect:
You will work on an as needed basis at the McLaughlin Youth Center located on Providence Drive in Anchorage. Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, but can be adjusted to meet the needs of the facility. MYC is a 24-hour secure facility.
