The Department of Corrections is actively seeking a motivated and passionate Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor to join our team. In this role, you will instruct and educate inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy in the electrical trade. Requirements

As a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections, you will play a key role in teaching and guiding inmates in the practices, methods, and procedures of the electrical trade at the journeyman level. Through demonstration, explanation, and close supervision, you will help students build the skills and confidence needed to perform electrical work safely and effectively.

In this position, you will provide both textbook-based instruction and hands-on training in the repair and construction of low- and high-voltage electrical systems. Your teaching will cover a wide range of components, including lighting, power outlets, conduit, underground circuits, switch boxes, breaker panels, switchgear, transformers, motors, electrical appliances, and generators. You will plan and assign work to inmates at various skill levels, offering clear communication, practical demonstrations, and ongoing guidance. You will also review and inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure it meets the standards of the electrical trade.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868 (before taxes).
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
