MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (MTQs): Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the mandatory technical qualification listed below.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: To be qualified for this position, applicants must be able to show progressively responsible experience in a correctional environment which has demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties such as training subordinates in the specific duties related to their function in the institution, coordinating and directing operations and programs in a correctional setting or at the national level, evaluating performance of institution operations and the effectiveness of programs in relation to the inmate population.

This experience must have been gained through the direction or assistance in the direction, of an entire correctional program or major phase of a correctional program. Major Duties:

The Senior Deputy Assistant Director for the Administration Division supervises the management of the various branches of the Administration Division, which includes programs and activities associated with its budget and financial programs.

As a principal member of the Assistant Director's staff, the incumbent is involved in all major policy decisions in the assigned functional areas which requires the incumbent to keep informed and current on goals and objectives of the Attorney General, Director of the BOP, Assistant Director for Administration, and the status of accomplishments toward those goals and objective.

The incumbent provides advice and technical assistance to regional office staff and through them, to institution managers.

They conduct visits to consult with regional managers to resolve problems and evaluate effectiveness of operations.

In cooperation with regional managers, they conduct frequent field visits to correctional facilities to observe and monitor field activities and assist in the resolution of major problems involving system-wide policy determinations.

They also assist regional office staff in adopting programs to meet special needs of institutions within the respective region.

The incumbent serves as liaison between the Administration Division and other divisions and offices.

In this capacity, serves as the focal point within the Division for issues involving budget and financial program matters.

The incumbent represents the Assistant Director while serving as a liaison between the BOP and National Correctional and Probation Association, and others in joint efforts to improve standards of custody, care, treatment, and training of inmates.

The incumbent participates as a witness with the Director and Assistant Director for Administration in testimony before the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and the Congress.

The incumbent may be required to provide oral testimony before the House and Senate Appropriation Subcommittees in support of the BOPs resource requests.
