Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading the laundry operations in Pennsylvania state prisons, where you'll supervise staff and inmates to run efficient production lines, manage budgets and supplies, and help inmates learn useful job skills.

It's a hands-on management role focused on keeping everything running smoothly in a secure environment.

A good fit would be someone with experience running large-scale operations and leading teams, who is organized and good at communicating.

Requirements

As a Correctional Industries Manager 1, you will assist with managing the overall operations of the Correctional Industries’ Regional Laundries located within State Correctional Institutions (SCI) at Benner Township, Frackville, Phoenix, and Somerset. You will establish priorities, goals, and objectives to attain established facility and departmental goals. You will also develop, revise, and implement functional work processes and procedures. This role requires strong leadership and effective communication skills to supervise and evaluate the work of staff and inmates while ensuring functional work processes meet production and quality control standards. In addition, you will oversee production records, payroll records, cost control, cost analysis, and raw material and supply inventory.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • The work location will be determined based on the selected applicant. You will be headquartered at SCI Benner Township (Centre County), SCI Frackville (Schuylkill County), SCI Phoenix (Montgomery County), or SCI Somerset (Somerset County).
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,069.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing or a service oriented production operation, including two years of supervisory experience; or
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Factory Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • A Master’s Degree with major course work in industrial engineering, business administration, public administration, vocational education, or industrial education, or related area and one year of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or a service oriented production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, including two years supervisory experience in a manufacturing or a service oriented production operation.

    Formal study at a college or university with major course work in industrial engineering, business administration, public administration, vocational education, industrial education, or related training may be substituted for non-supervisory experience on a year-for- year basis to a maximum of four years.


    Other Requirements:

    • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
