Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading and mentoring incarcerated individuals in a prison kitchen, teaching them how to prepare meals safely while enforcing hygiene rules and modeling good behavior.

It's a leadership role in food services at a correctional facility, focused on helping people in the justice system gain practical skills for reintegration.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on cooking experience in large-scale settings, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for guiding others in a structured environment.

Key Requirements

  • Two years of full-time experience in mass food production in commercial, military, hospital, or institutional settings
  • Equivalent combination of two years education and experience, including 30 semester hours in dietetics, nutrition, food management, or related fields
  • Ability to demonstrate cooking and sanitation methods
  • Skills in mentoring and leading incarcerated individuals
  • Enforcement of personal hygiene and sanitary standards through observation, instructions, and disciplinary measures
  • Modeling proper social and work behaviors

In this position you would serve the dietary department as a mentor and a leader to incarcerated individuals in the instruction and preparation of meals.
You will be required to demonstrate cooking and sanitation methods, as well as modeling proper social and work behavior.

In the dietary department you will need to enforce personal hygiene rules for incarcerated individuals to maintain sanitary standards for food service operations through visual observations, verbal instructions, and/or written disciplinary measures.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Two years of full-time work experience in mass food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional food services setting.
  2. A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in dietetics, nutrition, food management or a closely related equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Cook 1, Cook 2, or Baker.

Additional Information
