About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), U.S. Military Academy, West Point.

Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S.

Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America.

The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Cook without more than normal supervision to include: (1) Preparing and/or cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausages, eggs, hamburgers, fresh or canned vegetables, hot cereals, concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces and/or gravies; (2) Operating kitchen equipment which utilizes gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources; and (3) Cleaning equipment and/or work areas after use.

Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.

Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.

The employee is required to wear protective shoes, appropriate hearing protection, gloves, and other safety and food handling items required by food handling guides.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in kitchen areas, which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy.

Employee is exposed to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units.

Must stand on tile and cement floors, subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.

The employee is required to wear protective shoes, appropriate hearing protection, and gloves or other safety and food handling items required by food handling guides. Major Duties:

  • Perform a broad range of cooking or reheating of items from a pre-cooked/pre-prepared/leftover state including the full array of meats, starches, fruit, and vegetables.
  • Follow recipe guidelines, established menus, food preparation procedures, cooking instructions, codes and regulations.
  • Disassemble, clean, sanitize, assemble, and operate large scale gas, electric, and steam kitchen equipment, components, and food contact surfaces.
  • Maintain inventory accountability, stock rotation, and food protection.
  • Follow workplace safety rules regarding kitchen equipment, chemical usage and storage, and proper wear of personal protective equipment.
