About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision.

Ability to perform the common duties of a Cook, that include: planning the cooking process to produce a complete meal on time and at the proper temperature for a safe dining experience, prepare food by hand and assemble ingredients for regular menu items, and follow special health and safety procedures in storing items in the food bank and in reheating food items to prevent bacteria growth under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed.

Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Other Than Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Work involves constant walking and standing.

Employee must bend and stoop in loading trays on delivery carts, frequently lifts over 45 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in noisy kitchen and dining room areas; involves continuous standing and walking, mainly on concrete floors.

Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; exposed to dirt, grease and water in cleaning tasks.

Incumbent is subject to extremes of temperature in bringing supplies from walk-in refrigerators.

There is danger of slipping on wet floors which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped. Major Duties:

  • Perform vegetable preparation and patient tray service functions including assembling and dispensing of condiments, vegetables, desserts, beverages, fruits, meats for the dining room and patient tray service.
  • Follow specific recipes to prepare a variety of uncooked fruit, vegetables, macaroni, gelatin salads and desserts.
  • Operate scales and measuring devices, potato peeler, food chopper, vertical meat cutter, mixer, and meat tenderizers.
  • Perform cleaning tasks required to keep work areas, equipment, refrigerators and freezers in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Assemble and dispensing of food items on patient trays and working in all patient-serving areas.
  • Operate cash registers receiving payment for meals.
