Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping military personnel and their families by answering questions about health benefits, explaining coverage options, and resolving issues with medical payments and claims over the phone, in person, or in writing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing information on health benefit programs, educating beneficiaries on health care benefits, and utilizing automated health records systems.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accountability Attention to Detail Customer Service Decision Making Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Learning Reading Comprehension Reasoning Self-Management Stress Tolerance Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).

Major Duties:

  • Provides information and assistance based upon personal, written, or telephone inquires concerning both inpatient and outpatient medical care under the USHBP and medical care from civilian sources under the TRICARE program.
  • Provides detailed advice on the many benefits covered by the USHBP and provides information concerning services which are excluded by the program.
  • Provides specific advice on all eligibility requirements, exclusions of certain diseases or conditions, coverage of medical conditions, out-of pocket cost, coordination of benefits, and any applicable program rules.
  • Provides advisory services on benefits offered through the TRICARE program.
  • Explains the full range of available benefits and entitlements as well as eligibility requirements, options, limitations, and relationship to the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS).
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems for TRICARE beneficiaries and providers.
  • Resolves complaints of nonpayment or incorrect payment by TRICARE fiscal intermediary to beneficiaries and civilian health care providers.
