Summary

This job involves overseeing construction and maintenance projects at the Smithsonian Institution, ensuring contractors follow plans, stay on schedule, and meet budgets while providing technical support to staff and teams.

Full Job Description

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.

This position is located in Smithsonian Institution's Office of Facilities Management (FM), Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR).

The Office of Facilities Management and Reliability provides the full range of building services through eight maintenance and operational zones.

GS-11 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.

For this position specialized experience is defined as experience performing work related to construction; interpreting plans and specifications during construction; conducting on-site inspections of workmanship; and monitoring construction schedules to ensure projects are delivered on time.

GS-12 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.

For this position specialized experience is defined as experience interpreting plans and specifications during construction; coordinating on-site inspections; leading a team of crafts/trades persons engaged in construction work; and monitoring construction contract costs to ensure projects remain within budget.

The Construction Control Representative provides expertise in facility maintenance, contracting techniques to best support building systems and execution of maintenance projects.

In this position, you will: Serve as contracting office's technical representative for OFMR maintenance contracts.

Provide technical assistance and advice to OFMR staff members and/or contractors to assure contractors are in full compliance with contractual requirements.

Use automated technical software to compile information necessary to report and formulate data, presentations or documentation for maintenance assignments.

Oversee management and integration of contractor operations, work closely with SI personnel, professional engineers and maintenance operators engaged in maintenance activities and projects.

Communicate with personnel at a variety of levels to convey progress, problems and recommendations in a timely manner.
