Job Description

Summary

This job involves using computer software to create detailed drawings and plans for engineering projects, mainly in fish and wildlife restoration and construction, while assisting engineers with designs, calculations, and occasional site inspections.

Are you experienced in CAD and possess general knowledge of construction standards and techniques?


With your experience, you will assist engineers in the design of projects by completing CAD drawings and details from design sketches and existing drawings.


We are seeking a candidate to prepare drawings generated from topographical maps developed from survey information, and prepare detailed construction plans developed from rough sketches or verbal instructions supplied by engineers.



WHAT TO EXPECT -

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this position will:


Drafting.

  • Prepares original drawings utilizing CAD programs.
  • Prepares architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
  • Details and plans from old drawings, and mostly complete sketches, as assigned.
  • Computes yardages and other quantities subject to check.
  • Drafts finished maps.
  • Calculates and plots graphs, profiles, and other statistical, mathematical or engineering-type graphic illustrations.
  • Revises construction plans with “as built” correction.


Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Structural, and Hydraulic Design.

  • Under the direct supervision of an engineer, prepares calculations and routine designs for review and use in drafting above.
  • Computes quantities of areas and volumes in complex shapes.
  • Computes yardages and other earth moving quantities.


Office Duties.

  • Assists with ordering drafting and technical materials for the office.
  • Provides technical support for drafting hardware and software including printers.
  • Computers and Drafting Related Software.


Inspection.

  • Inspects all phases of construction projects on an occasional basis.
  • Inspects construction and document compliance with construction plans.
  • Reviews Request for Information (RFI) and project submittals as requested by Project Managers.


Survey.

  • Occasionally works with Survey crew in the field collecting data for projects.
  • Coordinates with Survey Crew for property and project surveys
  • Obtains data for project control and prepares calculations for field staking of coordinates for construction layout and control.
  • Completes field research, assists in information collection, inspects, and measures existing structures for accurate drafting later and measures stream flows.



Working Conditions:

Work setting: This position may work long hours at computer workstation performing drafting duties.

Must have the ability to sustain physical effort while working out in the field on uneven terrain or exert sustained physical effort during inclement weather in field.

This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments as well as active construction sites.

Both will require the proper training and use of PPE at all times.


Schedule: This position normally works Monday-Friday but may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week or on weekends.


Travel requirements: Travel as required.


Customer Interactions: Will be working primarily with Lead Engineers, Engineering Aides, and Inspectors.



QUALIFICATIONS:


Required Qualifications:


High school diploma or GED equivalency.


And


Four (4) years of experience Computer Aided Drafting OR college-level coursework with a major emphasis in Computer Aided Drafting.


And


Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).


And


Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.



Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess the following:

Two (2) years’ experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
