Job Description

Summary

This role involves helping to run and improve community service programs for the San Antonio Police Department, mainly by coordinating with other agencies, reviewing how programs work, and supporting staff.

It includes some office-based tasks with occasional exposure to challenging environments like dealing with hazardous materials or infectious diseases.

A good fit would be someone with a background in social services who is organized, good at communicating, and comfortable working in a public safety setting, especially with experience helping crime victims.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in social service or related field
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License
  • Pass Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility (no felony convictions, certain misdemeanors, or open arrests)
  • Ability to act as liaison between agencies and interpret program guidelines
  • Experience conducting visits to agencies and preparing reports on program quality
  • Knowledge of victim-centered and trauma-informed approaches (preferred)

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in the implementation, coordination, and continuous review of various community service programs. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, infectious diseases and unfavorable fumes, vapors and odors. May exercise functional and technical supervision over assigned staff. Requirements


Acts as liaison between local agencies concerned with the functions and operations of the program.Interprets program guidelines, and other policies and procedures for operating agencies.May conduct periodic visits to outside agencies and department programs and prepares reports of observations on the quality of services and program management.Receives, reviews, coordinates, and replies to correspondence submitted by operating agencies.Participates with agencies and department programs in recognizing operational problems; assists in making required adjustments; and promotes program innovation.May assign, evaluate and monitor completion of tasks.Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in social service or related experience.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

    Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bilingual in Spanish.
    • Experience with victims of crime.
    • Prior law enforcement experience.
    • Knowledge of a victim-centered and trauma-informed approach to speaking with victims.

    Applicant Information

    Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.

    One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

    One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
