Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Community Program Technician. This position performs a wide variety of clerical and administrative support duties in assisting the assigned department with administering community programs, including Neighborhood Revitalization programs, Homelessness Initiatives, Municipal Sports, Special Events, or others as assigned.

Ideal Candidate
This person will have experience working in communities with various social, cultural, and economic backgrounds, as well as in conducting outreach and neighborhood revitalization planning. Skills should include proficiency in storytelling, strategic communication, and visual content creation. Candidate must be creative, innovative, and comfortable with digital trends.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives general supervision from assigned supervisor, manager, and higher-level management.

May receive functional and technical supervision from higher level staff.Examination ProcessA civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas.

The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position.

The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only.

Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable).

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.


Requirements

Essential Functions

  1. Assist in providing guidance to neighborhoods, committees, community groups, sports leagues/teams, and the general public; assist in program implementation and provide logistical assistance for various activities, programs, and special initiatives.
  2. Attend meetings and events as needed; assist in collecting data and disseminating information for programs, services and community development.
  3. Collect data; compile and prepare various reports; review for accuracy; present and discuss results with management staff.
  4. Collect, analyze and summarize statistical and demographic information; establish and maintain databases and files.
  5. Provide support in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating various department programs and events.
  6. Maintain accurate records, reports and statistical data.
  7. Monitor budget expenditures, prepare monthly reports and provide status to management.
  8. Respond to complaints and questions from the public concerning department programs and services.
  9. Provide support in identifying community and neighborhoods needs, and recommending and implementing services, programs and outreach approaches; assist city departments with various related initiatives.
  10. Develop and administer surveys and compile and analyze data.


Marginal Functions

  1. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Experience:

One year of administrative or operational experience, preferably working with neighborhood or community groups.

Training:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Additional Information

Basic computer functions, including use of common office software such as word processing, spreadsheet and database application.
