Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves acting as a bridge between the US Navy in Italy and local Italian communities, handling communications, events, and problem-solving that require deep knowledge of Italian culture, politics, and language.
You'll advise leaders on sensitive issues, organize official visits and social events, and build positive relations with local authorities and organizations.
It's a great fit for someone bilingual in English and Italian with experience in cross-cultural liaison work, especially in military or international settings.
You will serve as a Community Liaison Specialist in the US Naval Support Activity of NSA NAPLES DETACHMENT GAETA.
This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates.
The selective placement factor is: Are you fluent in English and Italian spoken and written languages, to the extent that you can act as a spontaneous interpreter/translator and can provide official written translations in both English and Italian?
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Analyzing Italian and American customs, traditions, and mannerisms, both military and civilian, to liaise between general civilians, staff, military personnel, and foreign and national dignitaries; 2) Providing guidance to leadership on the Italian political system and climate and engaging local city hall authorities and community organizations to manage official government reputation in the area via the creation and completion of Community Relations (COMREL) event; 3) Referencing Italian law, culture, and customs to assist in resolution of legal problems of a military community; and 4) Interpreting military protocol and organizational structure to propose, plan, coordinate, and execute official visits and social functions.
