Job Description

Summary

This job involves maintaining the outdoor areas and buildings of a 24-hour community corrections facility in Iowa, including tasks like mowing lawns, applying fertilizers and snow removal, as well as performing repairs and cleaning duties.

It requires physical effort such as lifting and bending, and focuses on ensuring safety compliance through inspections and reports.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in building maintenance or trades who is reliable, physically capable, and comfortable working in a corrections environment.

Key Requirements

  • Five years of full-time experience in skilled trades related to construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings or commercial equipment
  • Completion of a post-high school vocational program in building trades or related fields (e.g., heat, electrical, refrigeration)
  • A combination of five years of skilled trades training/education and relevant full-time experience
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the district's automobile insurance policy
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including bending, lifting, stooping, and outdoor tasks in varying weather
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health rules for inspections, recommendations, and reporting
  • Eligibility to work in the US, verified through E-Verify

Full Job Description

Working at a 24-hour community-based corrections facility. Your work will include providing Routine maintenance of the grounds at all the facilities. Applying fertilizer, herbicides, mowing, landscaping, snow removal from the parking lots and sidewalks and applying ice melt/salt as needed. Inspecting premises to determine compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Rules and Regulations; recommending changes and preparing required reports. Performing general repair, janitorial duties, and maintenance; work can be physically demanding requiring bending/lifting/stooping.

A valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the District automobile insurance policy is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
