Summary

This paid internship involves helping improve communication systems and processes in a county IT department, such as documenting workflows, spotting issues, and suggesting better tools and ways to measure success.

Full Job Description

The County of Riverside's Information Technology Department is currently seeking a paid intern. The candidate will report to the IT Manager in the Converged Network Services Division.

The in-person student internship position is based in Riverside County and offers a flexible work week consisting of up to 30 hours per week, with flexibility granted around academic obligations. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to be 8-10 weeks in length.

Requirements

Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; Through participation, receive supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation, and performs other related duties as required.

The intern will be responsible for, but not limited to:
  • Understand telecom workflows.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements, tools, and KPIs.
  • Assist in implementing approved changes.
  • Document current processes and identify bottlenecks.
  • Recommend tools and define KPIs for performance tracking.
  • Support implementation of improvements of workflows.
The intern should expect to gain valuable insights into IT operations and processes, learn about the tools we currently utilize, and understand some of the projects we are working on. They will also see the impact these projects have on the community. Additionally, the intern will have the opportunity to collaborate in a team-oriented environment, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average: 2.5 GPA required.

Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application as well as a resume.Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program.

Areas of Study: Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Student, or recent graduate in the Field of Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field with a concentration of Telecommunications, Information Systems, or Networking.
  • 2.5 GPA or greater for Undergraduate students.
  • 3.0 GPA or greater for Graduate students.

  • Proactive and eager to learn.
  • Collaborates well with others within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Organize, plan, and assist with other projects/tasks as needed.
