Job Description

Summary

This entry-level role trains you to inspect boilers, pressure vessels, and related installations to ensure they meet safety laws and prevent accidents.

You'll work in the field under supervision, prepare reports, and follow up on issues, with flexibility to set your own schedule from a home office.

It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in machinery or engineering who wants to contribute to public safety and is willing to relocate to Delaware or Philadelphia County.

Key Requirements

  • One year of experience in the design, construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers, unfired pressure vessels, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives, or hydraulic systems

  • Obtain a valid National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector Commission within the probationary period

Requirements

The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct technical field inspections on boilers, unfired pressure vessels, liquefied petroleum gas installations, and flammable and combustible liquid installations.

These inspections are crucial in ensuring compliance with the State Boiler Law, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Law, and the Flammable and Combustible Liquid Law, as well as adhering to accepted national standards.

Following inspections, you will have the opportunity to assist the Inspector with preparing detailed reports of findings, conducting follow-up inspections and investigating reported accidents.

This role operates under the direct supervision of the District Supervisor and the general supervision of the Director of the Boiler Section in the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety.


As part of the program, successful candidates will be assigned to Delaware or Philadelphia County. It is important to note that relocation to one of these counties within six months of certification is a mandatory requirement for employment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in the design, construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, or repair of boilers, unfired pressure vessels, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must obtain, within the probationary period, a valid National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector Commission, and a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector Commission.

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

Other Requirements:

  • You must reside in or relocate to Delaware or Philadelphia County.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
