This job involves leading a team of code enforcement inspectors and staff in investigating and resolving violations of county building and safety codes, while also conducting fieldwork and coordinating with legal teams.
A good fit would be someone with strong leadership skills, experience in code compliance, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations like emergencies or public interactions professionally.

This recruitment is promotional only. You must presently be a full or part-time regular or probationary County of Sonoma, Community Development Commission, Sonoma County Fairgrounds, or Sonoma County Water Agency employee in order to apply for this position.
The Permit Sonoma Department has requested a department promotional certification to fill a Code Enforcement Manager position.
Only qualified permanent and/or probationary Permit Sonoma Department employees on the eligible list may be eligible for referral to the department for the advertised position.
This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time or part-time positions as they occur during the active status of the list.
Overseeing and participating in code enforcement investigation and abatement activities for the County, the Permit Sonoma Department's (PRD) Code Enforcement Manager plans, assigns, and directs the work of the Code Enforcement Division.
This position supervises three Senior Code Enforcement Inspectors, five Code Enforcement Inspectors, one Secretary, and one Senior Office Assistant.

Please note: While the position’s hours are normally Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm PST in an office environment, depending upon operational needs, the Code Enforcement Manager must be willing to work during emergencies, evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather, and other critical events, including travel to rugged, remote, and off-road locations using county vehicles.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a Code Enforcement Manager position in the Permit Sonoma Department.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Normally, this experience would consist of at least four years of increasingly responsible experience, including project leadership, administration, management or supervisory roles.
Normally, increasing responsible experience in code enforcement activities including the investigation of and preparation of reports and supervisory roles would provide such an opportunity.
Education: Any combination of education and/or training which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed.
Normally, training received at an accredited college or university or course work which includes: Code enforcement practices, investigative practices, building inspection, public health, planning, environmental studies, business administration, business law, public administration, management, supervision, speech, public relations, or biological or physical sciences would provide such opportunity.Probationary Period: All administrative management employees serve a one-year probationary period.

Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination.
Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as the number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates.
A background investigation is required prior to employment.
