Job Description

Summary

This per diem job involves providing therapy and behavioral support to children and youth at a youth emergency shelter, using a trauma-informed approach to help them manage emotions and build healthy relationships.

The role includes working with staff and families to create personalized wellness plans and ensure care aligns with court orders.

It's a good fit for licensed or associate-level therapists who are passionate about supporting vulnerable youth and can handle flexible weekend shifts.

Key Requirements

  • Current registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
  • Experience in interviewing consumers and gathering data to assess mental or emotional disorders
  • Ability to develop and evaluate service plans addressing psychological, economic, vocational, educational, physical, health, socialization, and housing needs
  • Skills in coordinating with staff (e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists) and community agencies for treatment and rehabilitation plans
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed care, emotional regulation tools, de-escalation strategies, and supporting Personal Wellness Plans
  • Availability for per diem shifts: 5-hour blocks on Fridays (6-11 pm) and weekends (11 am-4 pm, 3-8 pm, 6-11 pm)
  • Bilingual skills may be required

The County of Riverside - Department of Public Social Services has open Clinical Therapist I/II - Per Diem positions at Harmony Haven youth emergency shelter in Beaumont, CA.


Must be currently registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as: Associate Clinical Social Worker, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, or an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.

At Harmony Haven, we use a trauma-informed approach to create a structured and supportive system that empowers staff to confidently deliver high-quality behavioral health services tailored to the unique needs of youth and families.

The Clinical Therapist - Per Diem provides direct behavioral support and guidance to children and youth, utilizing both physiological and emotional regulation tools in a trauma-informed framework.

This position collaborates closely with Residential Care Workers to strengthen youth-staff relationships, reinforce behavior expectations, and ensure follow-through on Personal Wellness Plans.

Responsibilities include offering ongoing updates on youth progress and needs using developmentally appropriate communication, modeling healthy boundaries, and supporting the implementation of de-escalation strategies and timely Critical Incident Reports.

Additionally, the Clinical Therapist - Per Diem will review Court-Ordered Case Plans with the Wellness Team to ensure program activities align with legal requirements, and partnering with Social Service Practitioners and other service providers to maintain continuity of care for children and youth awaiting placement at HHCYC.


Bilingual may be required.

Schedule: 5 hour shifts: Friday 6:00 pm-11:00 pm, Saturday & Sunday 11:00 am-4:00 pm, 3:00 pm-8:00 pm, 6:00 pm-11:00 pm

Clinical Therapist I - Per Diem - $44.31
Clinical Therapist II - Per Diem - $50.33

The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is comprised of employees who work collectively and in partnership with community-based organizations to serve the needs of the community.




Requirements

• Interview consumers, relatives, and other involved persons to gather personal and social data relevant to assessing mental or emotional disorders.

• Develop service plans with consumers; evaluate psychological, economic, vocational, educational, physical, health, socialization, and housing needs.

• Coordinate with other staff members (psychiatrists, psychologists, and other program staff) and community agencies in carrying out and designing treatment or rehabilitation plans.

• Assist consumers and other concerned individuals in understanding the nature of major psychological illnesses and their psychosocial effects.

• Assist consumers and their families in understanding and choosing options of mental health treatment.

• Initiate and conduct individual, collateral, group, and family therapy sessions.

• Establish and maintain effective contact with local area mental health resources, including community members, parents, schools, residential facilities, and other agencies/organizations.

• Perform specialized tasks including involuntary hospitalization procedures (5150) and Tarasoff assessments.

• Participate in mental health conferences and local area committees.

• Prepare reports and write correspondence.

• Provide guidance to volunteers and staff.

• Act as a casework consultant to other clinical therapists and other departmental staff.

• Licensed level, within the scope of licensure, may provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians.

• Coordinate clinical decisions in response to operational demands.

• Conduct clinical discussions regarding complex or difficult cases.

• Respond to emergencies, within licensure, which may occur on the unit.

• Coordinate the flow of information and clinical data to ensure continuity in treatment or shift.

• Serve as liaison with other sections, units, services, and agencies.

Education:
Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a closely related behavioral science field.

AND

Certificate:
Clinical Therapist I must have possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Clinical Therapist II must have possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Other Requirements

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required.

Bilingual Testing

The Human Resources Department will coordinate a Bilingual (Spanish) Non-Proctored Assessment.
