This position exists to ensure a safe work environment through application of and adherence to CMHIP/CDHS policies, Joint Commission standards, Life Safety Codes and Colorado Revised Statutes.
The position responds to crisis situations (i.e.
physical or verbal assaults against persons or property, suicidal and/or self-harming behaviors) following hospital policies and procedures, assists with documenting incidents related to safety violations in patient-care areas, works with the treatment teams, and assists nursing and clinical staff to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
This position will assist with environmental safety checks and on unit/on campus transports to treatment programming and meals.
Supervise and watch over patients in a high-security setting to keep everyone safe.
Keep a constant eye on patients and staff to prevent accidents or security issues.
Step in immediately during emergencies, including dealing with patients who are acting out verbally or physically.
Use trained talk-down methods or physical moves to stop dangerous situations.
Watch closely to make sure no patients try to escape.
Work closely with the rest of the staff as a team to keep the unit calm and secure.
Stay calm and use good judgment when spotting risks to protect people's mental and physical health.
Help lead "talk-throughs" after an incident happens to review what went wrong.
Safely walk patients from one place to another, whether it’s inside the building, around the grounds, or to outside appointments.
Run emergency drills for the team.
Search rooms, common areas, and patient belongings for prohibited items.
Check that all windows, doors, and locks are working properly.
Do monthly safety checks of the units and write down what you find.
Look for safety hazards and work with the medical team to fix them right away.
Programming:
Help keep the unit safe and calm using trained intervention methods.
Follow the facility's treatment goals and help with daily patient activities.
Watch and write down how patients behave to decide on their rewards or restrictions.
Check on visitors to make sure they follow all hospital rules.
Stick to the daily work schedule and treatment plans for the shift.
Keep track of patient progress in their charts based on their specific behavior plans.
Suggest ways to improve programs to supervisors or clinical staff.
Supervise the cleaning of living areas and inspect patient rooms.
Walk patients to activities like gym, therapy groups, the store, the library, and meals.
Meet with the medical team to talk about patient progress and program issues.
Jump in to help staff during emergencies.
Handle daily tasks like wellness checks and shower safety checks.
Follow the clinical team’s instructions for specific patient behavior plans.
Watch patients one-on-one when extra supervision as needed.
Help out other units with incidents or emergencies as needed.
Write down observations of how patients act and how they respond to their treatment.
Keep a record of all unit activities and important news following hospital rules.
Enter security details and patient info accurately into the electronic records system.
Act as a mandatory reporter by filing official reports for any known or suspected abuse.
Ensure patient records are kept up to date and information is saved correctly.
Follow all laws and procedures when documenting and reporting workplace incidents.
Act and speak in a way that helps keep the workplace healthy, positive, and respectful.
Stay up to date on legal standards and follow all facility policies.
Follow all rules regarding your work schedule, clocking in/out, and taking leave.
Clean and maintain equipment according to safety standards.
Attend and take part in all required hospital and department training.
Successfully pass any tests or skill demonstrations required by your training.
Keep all mandatory training and certifications up to date.
Participate in monthly emergency drills.
Attend and complete the CSS Competency Fair requirements.
Complete any other reasonable tasks assigned by your supervisor or leadership.
Follow all state laws and facility policies when performing extra duties.
Former state employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.

CDHS Selection Process ExplanationEmployment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
