About the Position: The incumbent works as an independent professional under the administrative supervision of Behavioral Health carrying out independent duties in accordance with generally accepted psychological theories, methods, techniques, and practices.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.

or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing psychological evaluations of mental health patients, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and evaluating effectiveness of therapeutic efforts.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Overseas, approves, and documents all aspects of treatment planning.
  • Reviews and approves the appropriate treatment modality for each patient.
  • Develops processes and procedures to help patients navigate through their treatment.
  • Evaluates overall effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
  • Participates with other professional staff in providing emergency mental health services to include screening patients for appropriateness of psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Coordinates the multidisciplinary treatment of patients that may include, but are not limited to social work, nursing, community counseling centers, the exceptional family member program, command and legal or other community organizations.
  • Screens, interviews patients, and performs bio-psychological social evaluations.
  • Selects, approves, and documents treatment priorities through a treatment plan.
