Job Description

Summary

This part-time role as a Client Care Aide involves providing everyday hands-on support to veterans in a nursing home, such as helping with bathing, dressing, eating, and moving around safely.

It also includes checking basic health signs like blood pressure and keeping things clean to prevent infections.

A good fit would be someone compassionate and reliable who enjoys caring for elderly people and works well in a team under nurses' guidance.

Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Fitzsimons is a beautiful 180-bed, skilled nursing facility serving Colorado’s veterans. We strive to honor and respect those living in our community through companionship and person-centered care while providing a comfortable and safe place to live. At Fitzsimons, we provide long-term care and short-term rehab and have a secure memory care neighborhood. We are conveniently located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center. Fitzsimons celebrates a low 14% staff turnover rate and substantial longevity among staff.

Requirements

Provide basic hands-on patient/resident care in a safe, clean, infection controlled environment by bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene, skin care, range of motion, positioning, ambulating, transferring, toileting programs, feeding programs, transporting, performing basic assessments (vital signs, blood pressures, weights, etc.), and charting/documenting all of the above. This is a fully-operational position responsible for performing the full range of client aide tasks and problem-solving.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Under the direction of nursing staff, provide direct resident care to include bathing, dressing, undressing, assisting in and out of bed, performing personal hygiene, feeding programs, toileting programs, range of motion, transporting, and interacting socially to meet residents’ basic needs.

Explaining patient care before, during, and after contacts; answering call lights; assessing basic resident care needs; and updating noted resident changes

  • Under the direction of nursing staff, perform basic assessments, vital signs, blood pressure, weight, intake and output, and basic skin assessments
  • Under the direction of nursing staff, provide infection control, implement/use universal precautions, and dispose of waste. Clean linen room and equipment, stock supplies, and complete supply forms
  • Under the direction of nursing staff, performs correct use of safety/positioning devices, side rails, transfer belts, and proper use of equipment, and attends ongoing staff education programs.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
    • High school diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)

    Substitutions:
    • Current, valid certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies will substitute for the high school diploma or GED

    Special Qualifications:
    • Must hold and maintain an active CNA certification in good standing from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, as well as a current BLS Healthcare Provider Card.

    Preferred Qualification:
    • Experience in a long-term care/assisted living environment
    • Experience transporting/driving residents
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills

    FULL BACKGROUND CHECK: This position will have direct contact with vulnerable persons (as defined by C.R.S.27-90-111: "Direct contact" means providing face-to-face care, training, supervision, counseling, consultation, or medication assistance to vulnerable persons, regardless of the level of supervision of the department employee.

    "Direct contact" may include positions in which persons have access to or unsupervised time with clients or patients, including but not limited to maintenance personnel, housekeeping staff, kitchen staff, and security personnel.)

    • Must complete and pass TB test and any other vaccinations as required by the facility.
    • Must be willing to obtain vaccinations, as required by the State and facility
    • Must be willing to test for Tuberculosis (TB)
    • May be required to travel/transport residents in state vehicles

    • May require on-call status, if needed, per the pay plan for this position
