As a group you and the team will focus on providing quality designs and creative engineering solutions for wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, pipes, manholes, odor control facilities, flow monitoring facilities, rehabilitation/restoration of assets, and sewer bypass systems.

As an individual contributor your work will range from writing reports/emails, communicating with internal and external groups, completing engineering calculations, basin planning, hydraulic modeling, and preparing plans/details in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and ArcGIS.

You will also perform design and analysis for rehabilitation of large-diameter sanitary sewer pipelines and manhole structures as well as develop methods and strategies to prioritize rehabilitation projects including analysis of the consequences of failure.

As a Civil Engineer 2, you will lead lower-level employees in the performance of related but less complex duties while a Civil Engineer 3 supervisor will provide assistance when difficult or unusual problems are encountered.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Develops, administers, designs, and inspects capital sewer improvement projects, which may include structures, culverts, retaining walls, traffic control devices, sanitary or storm sewer structures, water quality enhancement facilities, or other appurtenances.
  • Studies, analyzes, and prepares engineering-related reports as required by state, federal and local authorities. Presents findings orally or in writing to county staff, officials, or other agencies.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to consulting engineer prepared reports, technical memorandums, plans and specifications to meet County project requirements and standards.
  • Calculates and verifies pay quantities for proper payment for contracted services, reviews calculations and accuracy of submittals.
  • Communicates regularly with maintenance and operations staff, engineers and engineering technicians within the work group, and groups outside the division.
  • Prepares final bid packages; schedules and advertises projects for bid; prepares responses to requests for information; prepares necessary addendums during bidding process; prepares change orders and pay estimates and maintains accurate project level budget and expenditure reports.

Qualifications


  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience related to the position is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited program in civil engineering, or a closely related field, may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis, up to four years.
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training is required of the position.
  • A valid driver’s license is required of the position.
