We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chemist 2 to join our dynamic team within operation and maintenance of the Mobile Analytical Units of the Bureau of Laboratories.

You will work closely with a team of professionals to support real-time environmental monitoring in response to Department of Environmental Protection program and emergency response activities.

Requirements

In this position, you will play a crucial role in the operation and upkeep of the Mobile Analytical Unit (MAU). You will work closely with the Mobile Laboratory Supervisor (MLS) to prioritize emergency samples over routine site analyses. Your strong analytical abilities will be applied to a variety of sample matrices, and you will also be responsible for training and advising other analysts from the MAU and Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) on different sampling techniques as required. Additionally, you will operate the instrumentation within the MAU, including the Open-Path Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (OP-FTIR) and any future equipment added to the unit, while ensuring adherence to Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor’s degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
  • A graduate degree in chemistry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
