BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
GS-11: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Applicants must have successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience related to the Advanced Practice Nurse (NP) specialty equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: knowledge of nursing policies and procedures of anesthetic techniques and agents in recommending, administering, and managing anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
GS-12: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements: Applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse (NP) equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: knowledge of professional nursing policies and procedures related to the preoperative, peri-operative and postoperative care of surgical patients and management of airway emergencies.
GS-13: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements.
Applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Anesthetist) equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: managing the patient's condition throughout surgery by interpreting data from monitoring devices, applying appropriate supportive therapy such as artificial ventilation, adjusting fluids and electrolyte balance.
Manage post anesthesia care of patient's providing continuity of care from operating room to recovery room, and managing any complications related to the anesthetic delivered.
You must meet all qualification requirements by the respective cut-off day of rating to be eligible for consideration. Major Duties:
All Grade levels MAY NOT be available at all locations.
Provide and establish treatment plans and services for patients undergoing a variety of surgical operations by administering proper anesthesia techniques like general anesthesia or sedation Assist in emergency cases by applying resuscitation techniques to patient Review patients clinical charts, review and maintain medical records to determine type of anesthesia for administering Interpret and utilize patient surgery data to determine need for supportive therapy Manage post-anesthesia care of patients by determining absence or presence of complications and assuring continuity of care
