This temporary job involves leading a small team in finishing concrete work for construction and renovation projects on Capitol Hill, such as building sidewalks, steps, and ramps.

It's ideal for someone with strong leadership skills and at least five years of practical concrete experience who enjoys physical outdoor work in a government setting.
This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Engineer, Construction Division, Construction Execution Branch.
If your experience is in the cement occupational series, you will enjoy the opportunity to serve as a Cement Finisher Leader in new construction and renovation projects in assigned jurisdictions on the Capitol Hill Complex.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. Ability to lead workers in the performance of cement finishing work. Major Duties:
*** This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 13 months. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved.
It is a position that is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds without any advance notice.
If project work continues however, it could be extended beyond the 13-month time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.
As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management's expectations, with no advance notice.
*** The Applicant Must Have a Valid and Unexpired Driver's License It is Desirable that the applicant have at least 5 years of recent/active concrete experience that can be verifiable.
Day Shift (4:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M) Monday thru Thursday.
Hours May Change Due To Operational Needs of Management The individual selected for this position will perform the following: Leader Responsibilities As a working leader, the employee is responsible for the following functions/duties: Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group; working along with other workers and setting the pace; demonstrating proper work methods; ensuring that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained; obtaining necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift; maintaining current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives, for example, technical orders to be able to answer questions of other workers; distributing the work equitably; checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been followed; urging or advising other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines; reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays; and answering supervisors' questions on overall work operations and problems, such as the need for additional on-the-job training for individual employees.
Cement Finishing Performs maintenance, repair, and construction on surfaces such as sidewalks, steps, walls, curbs, and ramps.
Builds and sets forms on projects, some of which require precise measurements and setting forms in curved as well as straight lines. Mixes, pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete.
In repairing damaged areas, removes broken concrete and prepares sub-surfaces.
Plans work methods and sequences, lays out work to be done, determines materials to be used, selects proper tools, and accomplishes the job in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices.
Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
Utilizes knowledge of and complies with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner.
Receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized.
Ensures the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
