Job Description

Summary

This role leads a program at Shoreline Community College that helps young adults aged 16-21, who dropped out of high school, succeed in college and earn credentials for good-paying jobs.

The team lead supports staff, enrolls students, advises on classes and internships, and ensures everyone meets program goals.

It's ideal for someone experienced in education or social services who enjoys working closely with colleges and supporting at-risk youth.

This position will serve as the CYYAD lead for the CECO post-secondary program which is located on the campus of Shoreline Community College.

They will support the Post secondary social service professionals, administrative staff, and partners within the CECO post-secondary program to meet the performance outcomes and program expectations.

CECO is a, “to and through post-secondary”, open doors program serving students who have dropped out of high school, between the ages of 16-21.

This specific position will be working with the post-secondary side of the program which will be focused on students persisting through their PS journey and attaining a credential that leads to a family supporting wage and/or further education.

This position will oversee CECO PS, in areas of recruitment for the whole program, work with administrative staff to enroll students into the program, support the study lab, work with case managers to advise students and register for classes, make sure they are on pace to graduate, have access to internships and support services as well as provide case management support for participants, while facilitating the case management support of other participants.

This position will be deeply embedded in the working of the College and will be mandatory that they know the processes, and policies, from FERPA to the faculty contracts, as well as making sure programming is aligned with KC, and State Open Doors requirements.

This position will report to the CECO Site Director.

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS: This is a Career Service assignment. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.

The primary on-site location is Shoreline Community College (16101 Greenwood Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133) – FIVE DAYS PER WEEK.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval. This position is represented by PSEU.

MISSION CRITICAL POSITION STATUS: This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical.

Requirements

  • Work collaboratively with the Shoreline Community College, King County, OSPI, and the Site Director to ensure that all grants, state and local requirements, and program needs are met.
  • Staff the study lab.
  • In partnership with the CECO Site Director lead the recruitment efforts of youth/young adults for the program. This includes working to recruit participants from all CYYAD or CECO.
  • Assist administrative team to enroll, register, and process students to CECO programming in both secondary and post-secondary programming.
  • Provide case management support to participants, which includes assessment, development of individual service plans with short-term and long-term goals and monitoring the plan with the young person.

    As well as registering for college courses, putting an graduation plan together, and training new staff.

  • Oversee the case management of other participants in the CECO PS program and provide support and leadership to their social service professionals as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationship with youth/young adults ages 16-24 years who have multiple barriers to success.
  • Document case notes and maintain participant records in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Meet performance-based outcomes per the CYYAD contracts with WIOA, DVR, Shoreline Community College and state agencies.
  • Complete required paperwork for the program that may be related to client eligibility, activities, demographics, work-based learning, and outcome attainment. Support other social service professionals to complete paperwork.
  • Assist in enrolling students into internships, apprenticeships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree social work, education, or related field, and at least two years’ recent experience providing direct multi-level social services to youth and young adult ages 16-24 years. Recent is defined as within the last five years.
  • Relevant experience can be substituted for education as long as it is clearly demonstrated that experience will allow the candidate to meet the above requirements/job duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties within the context of understanding and applying complex regulations and definitions; and experience providing complete extensive technical documentation as well as supporting other to complete technical documentation (paperwork, eligibility).

    This is to include database skill sets such as interfacing with CTC link, Canvas, and being able to register and enroll students into college courses.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse population of youth and young adults, employers, other staff, community and technical colleges, and community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing outreach strategies as needed to effectively recruit youth and ensure enrollment goals are achieved.
  • Ability to assist youth/young adults in meeting goals and securing quality employment and supporting other staff to assist youth/young adults to meet goals.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure/short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including conflict resolution techniques.
  • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with youth and employees from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and the Internet.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol Background check.
