Organizational Purpose:

This work unit exists to provide customer service, general grounds keeping, janitorial services, and special event fulfillment for the Colorado State Fair campus.

Major Objectives of the Position:

This position is part of the Event Services unit of the Operations section at the Colorado State Fairgrounds.

Position prepares buildings and event areas, ensures all areas are clean, and assists with setting up for the many events on the fairgrounds including the annual Colorado State Fair.

Position performs janitorial duties including trash & recycling collection, restroom cleaning & sanitizing; floor care including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing & polishing; building and office cleaning; event cleanup before, during and after events; securing and replenishing paper and cleaning supplies; grounds keeping including snow removal, weeding, leaf removal, flowerbed care, light tree trimming, stall cleaning/manure removal and other assigned grounds needs.

Primary Duties:

Custodial Services:

  • Position cleans buildings and grounds before and after special events and rentals and maintains cleanliness of the fairgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to, trash disposal, recycling collections, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, dusting, and other cleaning functions.

  • Position maintains cleanliness of all restroom facilities by deep cleaning, removing trash, sanitizing, and disinfecting all restroom fixtures to include toilets, urinals, partitions, sinks & faucets, dispensers, floors, walls, vents, mirrors, and all other surfaces.

    Fills & replenishes dispensers with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other essential items.

  • Position maintains cleanliness of buildings and offices on a regular basis to include deep cleaning, sanitizing, removing trash & recycling, scrubbing of floors, walls and other surfaces, carpet cleaning, applying floor finishes, cleaning/dusting light fixtures & switches, cleaning/dusting of vents, window cleaning, cleaning, and sanitizing of drinking fountains and all other high touch areas as needed.

  • Position cleans exteriors of buildings by removing trash from entrances, cleaning entry doors and windows, sweeping entry ways, cleaning entry mats and rugs.

  • Position performs emergency cleaning as needed which may include animal waste, human waste, or bodily fluids.

  • Position uses the proper cleaning supplies and chemicals and ensures that all chemicals and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and secured.

  • Position inventories and stocks all janitorial supplies for the facility. Informs Event Services Manager of needs so that supplies can be ordered.

  • Safely and effectively operates specialized cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, bathroom machines, floor buffers, carpet shampooers, and power washers.

  • Properly stores, cleans, and maintains janitorial equipment and machinery.

  • Position performs routine maintenance janitorial equipment by replacing belts, hoses, or filters on janitorial machines.

  • Position maintains custodial storage areas by keeping them neatly stocked and cleaned. Reports any needs or potential hazards to the Supervisor.

  • Position may assist the Event Services Manager with quarterly restroom assessments of condition.

Groundskeeping:

  • Position maintains cleanliness on all State Fair property and performs grounds keeping activities such as snow removal, flower bed preparation, watering, weeding, leaf & debris removal, tree or vegetation trimming, gutter cleaning, animal stall/pen cleaning, and other assigned grounds needs.

  • Position performs general maintenance to include changing light bulbs, painting, repairing, or replacing dispensers, and other minor repairs or maintenance as needed.

  • Position secures offices, buildings and gates as needed.

  • Position monitors conditions of the grounds by observing and reporting any repair needs or potential hazards to the Event Services Manager.

  • position operates machinery and vehicles such as fleet truck, golf cart, scissor or man lift, forklift, blowers, and chainsaws.

Event Fulfillment:

  • Position prepares buildings and grounds for non-fair rentals and the annual Colorado State Fair.

  • Ensures cleanliness of buildings and grounds by performing custodial and groundskeeping services prior to, during and after events.

  • Provides renters with access to buildings/rented areas.

  • Position will assist with set-up of tables, chairs, dance floors, basketball floors, stages, animal pens, arena panels, sound systems and other equipment needed for events at the fairgrounds.

  • Position assists with setting of tents, barricades, fences, panels, gates as needed.

  • Under the direction of the Event Services Manager, the position may be assigned as a point of contact or work lead for temporary event staff and inmate work crews.

    Position may be responsible for explaining and/or training them on duties to be performed and ensuring that duties are performed as needed.

  • Upon event completion, the position will clear all equipment and debris from event space, transport equipment to proper storage areas and thoroughly clean the event area including restrooms and exterior areas.

  • Under the direction of the Event Services Manager, the position may be tasked with post event walk-throughs to assess cleanliness of the facility and determine if there are any damages.

Minimum Qualification:Proven Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
  • Six (6) months of relevant experience in custodian or janitorial roles
  • Part time experience will be prorated

Education and Experience:
  • A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in custodian or janitorial roles equaling Six (6) month.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a regulatory role including, working with rules and regulations.

  • Relevant experience working for the State of Colorado.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must have an active Colorado driver's license.

  • Must be a resident of the state of Colorado.

  • Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours

  • Will need to work outdoors in adverse conditions such as rain, heat, and snow.

  • Need to be able to exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally and up to 50lb of force frequency and/or up to 20lb of force constantly to move objects.
